Thatcher ‘wiped out’ the West Midlands claims senior Tory MP
A senior Tory MP and outgoing father of the House of Commons Sir Peter Tapsell has slammed Thatcherism for destroying the UK’s industry and ‘wiping out the West Midlands’.
Tapsell, who recently announced that he will not run in next general election, told the Telegraph that he loathed attending shadow cabinet meetings under Margaret Thatcher’s leadership of the Conservative Party and criticised her administration’s economic policies while in office.
“[Thatcher’s monetarism] destroyed British industry,” the 84-year-old argued. “The whole of the West Midlands was wiped out and has never recovered.’’
